Career paths Who you could be in the brigade There are four functions in our brigade: Firefighters – on the frontline, rescuing; Control, answering 999 calls; Fire Safety, reducing risk; and Head Office, ensuring the organisation runs smoothly. We depend on each other to serve and protect London. FIREFIGHTERS Our firefighters are out on the frontline saving lives, homes, businesses and streets. Yes, they put out fires. But they also rescue people from flooding, road collisions, major incidents and much more. And they educate Londoners on how to be safe. Learn more Prevention and Protection Our Fire Safety teams reduce risks across the capital. They inspect buildings, enforce fire safety laws, and investigate fires. Their work stops many fires before they start. Learn more CONTROL Our Control staff are based at the London Operations Centre. When you call 999, the call is transferred to them. They advise callers on what to do in an emergency and gather the necessary information to mobilise our firefighters. Learn more Professional Services From IT to public affairs to education, our Head Office teams are vital to ensuring the brigade runs smoothly. Whether that’s budgeting for new equipment, creating communication campaigns, or a thousand other responsibilities.
